UAE health ministry says no plans to close shopping malls

Ministry said rumour came from a social media post dated March 23, when the Covid-19 crisis began to escalate

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has denied the rumours attributed to it regarding the closure of shopping malls and centres in the country.

Clarifying the rumour, the ministry said the explained that the social media post that was shared recently dates back to March 23 this year, soon after the emergence of Covid-19 crisis.

The ministry in a circular made it clear that all information issued by it are published through its official accounts and advised the community members to ignore the rumour and obtain the correct information from official government sources only.

Retailers in Dubai were issued with new guidelines this week, which lifted restrictions on sales promotions and removed ‘no refund, no return’ policies.

In a circular, Dubai Economy recommended that local malls operate from 10am to 10pm on weekdays after Ramadan.

As has been the case for several weeks, occupancy must be maintained at 30 percent of common and gross leasable areas. Staff levels must also be kept at 30 percent.
